New snacks will entice consumers to eat more vegetables
The One-bite cucumber is like the green ‘baby brother’ of the snack tomato, and the Snack Lettuce© is an edible spoon for hot and cold appetisers. These are just two of the innovations that Rijk Zwaan is presenting during Fruit Logistica, from 6-8 February 2019. With a range of new snack vegetables, the vegetable breeding company is enticing consumers to eat healthy vegetables even more frequently.
A healthy future
The snack market continues to grow worldwide, but thankfully people are increasingly choosing natural and health-conscious snack options. Rijk Zwaan is keen to stimulate that behaviour, because it contributes to a sustainable and healthy future. New snack vegetables are one way of enticing consumers to eat healthily even more often.
The One-bite cucumber is one such novelty. Measuring 5 to 6 centimetres in length and weighing between 8 and 15 grams, it is part of the MyCubies line, which also includes green, bicolour and mint-green snack cucumbers. “One-bite is a healthy, convenient option when hunger pangs strike. Our chain partners are enthusiastic about it, and one North-American customer has listed it already,” comments Johan Vis, Marketing Specialist at Rijk Zwaan.
Another innovation is Snack Lettuce, which won an innovation prize at last autumn’s Fruit Attraction event in Madrid. Its firm leaves have a sweet taste and a crunchy bite. The unique shape makes this lettuce ideal as an ‘edible spoon’ for hot and cold snacks, thus helping to avoid waste. The same lettuce type – crunchy lettuce – is also perfect to use as a wrap. Lettuce wraps are popular all over the world because they are carbohydrate-free, and the crunchy leaves are firm enough to hold any kind of filling.
More shapes and colours
The snack corner at the Rijk Zwaan stand has even more new products in store, including snack tomatoes and snack peppers in a wide choice of shapes and colours. Visitors are welcome to stop by the Rijk Zwaan stand (Hall 1.2, Stand D-04) which is focused on the theme of ‘Innovating for sustainability’. This year, it is once again possible to arrange an appointment to also visit the Rijk Zwaan Retail Center in the heart of Berlin, where trade visitors can experience for themselves how the new snacks will entice consumers to eat even more vegetables, more frequently. That’s how Rijk Zwaan is sharing a healthy future.
