Premiere Event of to show Rijk Zwaan’s highlights at Fruit Attraction 2019
On Wednesday, 9 October 2019, Rijk Zwaan held an interesting day to present an exclusive preview of the latest trends in the global market for healthy food, which is currently booming. The day, which highlighted various unique and innovative, health-related concepts, included a special contribution from Fernando Botella, CEO from Think&Action. Rijk Zwaan will be exhibiting at Fruit Attraction 2019-Ifema (Pavilion 9 Stand 9D12) later this month.
New line: ‘On the go’
Rijk Zwaan has developed a new, fresh and tasty line to meet the needs of today’s on-the-go consumer featuring delicious snacks for any time of the day. This includes two new cherry tomato varieties – Deliquia RZ and Sugarino RZ – as well as the MyCubies© snack cucumbers, which can also be combined with other ingredients and additions like dips. The wraps made with Snack Lettuce© are currently being introduced in several channels, including foodservice and at airports. Other novel products in this new line include differently coloured cauliflower florets that can be eaten raw, and new varieties of snack peppers.
Within the Product Gourmet line, the Sweet Palermo sweet pointed pepper is the premium ingredient that forms the basis for a surprising variety of other consumer products, such as:
- Gazpacho Fresco including Sweet Palermo from Biosabor
- Red pepper hummus made with red Sweet Palermo from La Gergaleña
- Deshidratado Buen oh! made with Sweet Palermo from Única Group
- Jam made with the essence of Sweet Palermo
- Pimentón Sweet Palermo
- de Pisto meal kit containing Sweet Palermo from Única Fresh
Visitors to the upcoming edition of the Fruit Attraction trade show can discover the delicious sweetness of Sweet Palermo for themselves at the Food Truck located in the central foyer between Halls 5 and 6. They can also sample Sweet Palermo in the consumer products at the stands of the relevant production companies (who are growers of both organic and conventional crops). At those stands, visitors can additionally enter a competition to win one of meal kits.
This is all part of the new campaign called The Sweet Effect, which emphasises the high vitamin C content – thus responding to consumer demand for convenient and great-tasting products that are also healthy and nutritious.
In the ‘Finest’ category of brassicas, the Violet & Luca (white and purple) kohlrabi duo for export stands out, as well as the very sweet mini pointed cabbage Cabbisi© for use in salads, which will be sold on international markets too. Moreover, new varieties of the FunTastyCos lettuces are being launched. Completing this category is the Snack Lettuce©, which won the Accelera Prize for innovation at last year’s edition of Fruit Attraction. Visitors to this year’s event will be able to taste the crunchiest, most flavoursome and sweetest ‘natural spoon’ with various fillings (guacamole, pico de gallo, etc.) at the stands of El Dulze, Jimbo Fresh and Fruca, as well as at the Food Truck located in the central foyer between Halls 5 and 6.
Following on from Knox™, which recently won the Fruit Logistica innovation award for delaying pinking in fresh-cut lettuce, Rijk Zwaan has now added a new line: Salanova® Teen Leaf. Because this product is harvested halfway between being a baby leaf and reaching full maturity, it is possible for growers to work with a higher plant density and to harvest the lettuces mechanically.
As another novelty, Sparkle RZ is a small-leaf variety that combines the best of corn salad and rocket. With its distinctive and unique taste, it is ideal for the foodservice market. At Fruit Attraction, visitors will see that this variety is also extremely suitable leaf for cultivation in Vertical Farming.
Last but not least, Rijk Zwaan will present various environmentally friendly packaging solutions, such as the sustainable Sweet Palermo bag which is made from compostable material.
