Optimal Defense against powdery mildew

Powdery mildew remains a persistent challenge in protected crops compromising both fruit quality and yield. In crops without resistance, powdery mildew can quickly take over, leaving plants completely covered by the fungus and heavily compromising production. Even in resistant varieties, some yellowing may still occur, but the extent of these symptoms is closely linked to the resistance level: the stronger the resistance, the more limited and less visible the yellowing.

As illustrated in the accompanying image, a fully susceptible plant receives a score of 6, while a variety showing minimal symptoms scores as low as 1, almost comparable to a non-infected or fully resistant plant (scored at 0). Our latest Rijk Zwaan Lt-Defense generation boosts the highest level of resistance available, typically scoring level 3 or lower.

The integrated Powdery Mildew Intermediate Resistance (IR) helps reduce disease pressure, enabling plants to stay vigorous and productive for longer. The genetic resistance serves as a built-in layer of protection supporting a cleaner crop, more predictable growth and fewer unexpected challenges. This advanced resistance provides growers with the certainty of healthy produce and peace of mind throughout the season.
