In somewhat more than 200 strowes, Maarten Zwaan jr, son of Michiel and grandson of Maarten drove the first pile into the ground for the new headquarters and the expansion of the Seed Technological Centre (ZTC).
Maarten Zwaan sr. referred to the historical context of this event. In 1965 the founder Rijk Zwaan assigned the same location, in those days still a grassland, as a new base. A year later Jaap Zwaan, son of Rijk, drove in the first pile for what is currently our headquarters. “We have looked forward to this new building for a long time now”, said Maarten Zwaan. “For three years we started the preparations under the management of Henk de Heer. Eventually it is an investment with which the management shows her confidence in the future. We should, in terms of founder Rijk Zwaan, continue strongly.”
The expectation is that the driving-in of 800 piles of 23 to 28 meters each, will take six working weeks. Simultaneously the construction of the foundation will be started.
